Easter 2013

Easter was wonderful this year.  I loved the whole pre-easter week.  I personally did more study about the week leading up to the Savior's resurrection and everything was so much more meaningful to me. We enjoyed a wonderful musical stake fireside on Palm Sunday. Then I tried to prepare and teach the children about what occurred that sacred week thousands of years ago.  We managed to squeeze in some scriptures for them before they went to school, we had flat bread with our dinner on passover Thursday, and Jed gave us a wonderful lesson that over viewed the whole week on Saturday night. So the idea I have in my mind of what I want Easter to feel like is getting closer to my target, but I still need to organize and work out some kinks.  :)
We dyed easter eggs in advance this year....seeing as how we didn't get it worked into our festivities last year.
 Ahhhh...bright colors for spring!
This is what Claire did while we dyed eggs.  ;)

   I love it.
 Serious business this coloring stuff....

We had an ugly egg contest and the kids spent quite a bit of time marinating their ugly eggs trying to perfect their ugliness....
Those greenish ones are the ugly egg contestants.
In the end we couldn't even pick a winner, we didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings saying their egg wasn't the "ugliest!"  :)
Drew was trying to barricade Claire out of our work zone....poor younger siblings.  They have it rough.
Saturday morning we had smoothies before heading up to Swan Valley.

The drive was beautiful, and the kids were amazed at the fact that we were driving in the clouds.
Good times at the Easter egg hunt:

Trying to look chipper while being blinded by the sun....
Much better facing the other direction....
I took Lily and Claire to the little ones egg hunt....
Claire got her one egg, then dropped it....

Drew got quite the loot, actually they all did.

Lily even won a big cuddly teddy bear.
Drew and I had a sack race.....he won.

Easter morning was quite out of the ordinary.  The kids didn't wake up for quite awhile, and Jed didn't have any early morning church meetings.  We got ready for church, had scripture study, the house was spic and span, and the kids were still not awake.  I guess that kind of explains how the house was spic and span....  ;)
Finally, they woke up and we found our hidden easter baskets and had our own egg hunt.

Claire was the last straggler out of bed.
Everyone helped her find her basket.

Pleased as punch with her new baby goods.
Lily's basket was found next, and everyone checked out her goods.  I guess it's kind of as good as finding your own basket because it gives them an idea of what they will find in theirs...
Madelyn found the traditional dollar egg...and it is getting kind of traditional that Madelyn is the finder of the dollar egg.  ;)

 Some bubble blowing...

 And cupcake making.....
And kite flying...
And uplifting church going....
And reflecting....
And family time....
And delicious food...
And I would say we had a pretty great Easter.

  1. It's a good thing we have lots of years to get it right, isn't it? I always think the whole week will be spiritual, but usually we do good on 2 or 3 days. Ah well, onward, ever onward! He knows our hearts and that is most important!
